The house of Valentino debuted eco-friendly sneakers featuring a bio-based material stripe, nylon studs, and a partially recycled rubber sole with studs along the back. This is not the first initiative that Valentino has taken in order to become a more sustainable company. Nearly ten years prior, Valentino vowed to remove all hazardous chemicals from its supply chain by 2020 in addition to ceasing production of garments with animal fur.

Valentino is not the only designer label promoting sustainable products, Louis Vuitton has introduced a handbag collection made from eco-felt. The collection consists of three classic bags, the Keepall, Keepall XS, and the Soft Trunk, reworked in a shimmering sustainable material. The mixed resources in the collection are crafted using 43 percent certified organic cotton and 20 percent recycled wool, the chains and corners are produced with 70 percent recycled plastic. The luxury brand makes use of 100 percent recycled polyester sourced from deadstock for the lining of the bags.

In addition, Prada has created one of the most popular handbags in the fashion influencer community, the Prada re-edition nylon bag. Nylon has been an essential part of the Prada brand for decades, and now instead of virgin nylon, every handbag is made with regenerated-nylon yarn that can be recycled an infinite number of times. The nylon is made using yarn sourced from discarded plastic such as fishing nets, plastic bottles, and carpets collected from landfills and oceans across the planet. The nylon goes through a chemical de-polymerization procedure, purifying it before production. Prada’s initiatives have reduced carbon emissions of CO2 by 65,100 tons.
